HAPPY NEW YEAR - BWAHAHAHAHHHHHAAAAAA

Anyway.... busting my ass the last couple months at work. If anyone's seen Black Swan.... I did the titles and main on ends (end titles/credits).

Been stupid busy, but still had a couple minutes to play a few hands, and actually play live cash for the first time over thanksgiving. Went to Rivers casino in Pittsburgh with my mother in law. Pretty much nitted it up, got AA on my last hand and made a couple bucks.... was amazed at how much limping goes on live.... holy crap.

Hope all is well with you kids in blogger land - I'll be back in full blaargh force around the 15th when my latest job is done...

:)

EDIT: btw - I completely realize the image above is pretty close to the worst bankroll management evah. At one point yesterday, I had just about every cent in my roll on the tables. It was too hard not to resist the complete crazies that came out willing to dump their entire bankrolls in my direction. Thankfully, I was able to withstand the inevitable coolers, and most of my hands held, and most of my reads were spot on. I won't, however, be playing 100NL again until I'm at least a little better rolled. Winning about 500 bucks yesterday helps put me in that direction though :)

Quickie update

Couldn't stay away for too long... been playing a bit here and there, but only when I'm feeling it - haven't been forcing it. Seems to be working out. Doubled my BR since last post. It really helps that my EV has been flat, big hands have been holding, but more so that I've been following my own rules - stop when tired, don't play tired, keep emotions out of decisions. My sessions have been an hour or less, then I quit for the night. It also seems like there has been an influx of bad players. Anyone else notice that, or am I just getting lucky with my tables?

Takin a break

I'm takin a break from poker. Pretty much even for the month. Hooked another project that will keep me working crazy hours until December and I'm not feeling the poker thing like I used to. As a matter of fact, this last week I haven't played at all and I feel great. I don't stay up late, I don't wake up feeling like crap because I won or lost.

I went ahead and bought my new sax even though I didn't hit my target - added my live winnings to the mix and I'm close enough. Coming in the mail today. New and creative ways to bug the crap out of my wife and kid.

I'll give poker a bit of a rest and probably just go back to what I used to do... a couple sit and gos here and there, mookie when I can, maybe a tourney here and there... I'd like it to be fun again, not a second job.

F for EFFort

Up 1 buyin in a short session while I was helping my daughter with her math homework. "That problem is exactly the same way you figure out pot odds sweetie, you've done this a million times! Here watch daddy do it. @!#$$&*@@ suckout bastard! No, don't write that down."

Am I the worlds greatest dad or what?

Moving the wrong way

Up about a buyin last night in a mostly breakeven session. Decided I should quit while ahead and not overly tired. Of course an hour later felt like playing again.... played like crap, ran into complete nut cases, chopped 3 pots I had completely and utterly dominated, shoved the 2nd nuts forty thousand times... got my flopped str8 rivered twice, ran my flopped set of aces into a flopped str8, ended the night down $16. Most of this is pretty standard, but I do feel like I need some improvement. I'm getting valuetowned with slightly worse when I don't believe reg's shoves. It's hard to believe they have it every time, but bloody hell they do... Could have been way worse, but I'm going to have trouble making my goal if I keep playing like this....

Can I win a 95/5 just once?

Apparently not. I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but for some reason Friday nights are my absolute worst for poker. The crazies come out of the woodwork to gamble it up and I end up losing every pot I enter. This last Friday was no exception. -5 BI in my worst night of suckouts and coolers in a long time. I won't bore you with the details, we'll just agree it was ugly and move on....

Good news is there was no tilt. Just moved from one hand to the next, playing the best I could.

Saturday I got about 1 BI back, last night was break even. I did have one guy rr me on an 88T board, then CALLED my shove with JQo. Unfortunately I couldn't find any more good situations for that station. That got me back to break even, as a few minutes previously I had AA cracked by 66 aipf. Tons of hit and runners out these days as well. Gets pretty frustrating, but it does feel good when you have them tagged and know their m.o. and stack them.

Not a great start, but it can only get better from here, right? Right? Hello?

Quietly rebuilding...

I quit caring. About poker, that is. It showed up in my results. Rather than practicing good BR management, I spewed huge chunks of ca$h in -EV (for me) games, playing beyond my BR. I used to be really careful about my bank roll. I realized a few weeks ago that I just didn't give a shit. Rather than playing to win, I was playing for entertainment. I became one of the folks I used to target.

I have a mission now. I proved to myself this month I can win at rush. Most of my spew was at the rush tables, and rush tends to magnify leaks. I still don't love the variance, but I no longer tilt off huge sums when I'm beat. I played some regular 6max tables last night and for the first time in a while I enjoyed it. I played to win. I folded AA when I was sure I was beat. I pushed for value, not variance. I didn't push the action unless I was way ahead. I beat up on obvious thieves. I quit when I got tired. I quickly got out of tables that weren't working for me. My biggest loss for the night was $7. My biggest pot won was $101. At 25NL. The nut cases are still out there, I'm happy to report.

I want that money I lost back. I have a carrot. There's a tenor sax I want to buy. I'm only going to use poker funds to get it. I've never withdrawn a cent from FT. It's time to enjoy the work I've put into this game. I'm about 1/4 of the way there.

Wish me luck :)

This soooooo made me want to do this again...

Blackhawk - Why I Love Soaring the Desert from NMERider on Vimeo.
36 miles from Blackhawk Mountain (Lucerene Valley) to Daggett. Song: Bardo by Vas from "Feast of Silence". 4/14/2010.

Had some free time during a render today at work and thought I'd see what the hang gliding scene was like these days. I flew for about 10 years, mostly in Ellenville NY, but flew tons of other sites and contests around the states. I hit 17,000 feet in Colorado (I had an oxygen tank so I wouldn't get hypoxic). Did tons of XC mostly around the 30 - 40 mile range (stupidly tough out east, much easier out west - the conditions are much bigger. Most of my flights were between 2 and 4 hours if I didn't immediately sink out or intentionally take a sled run. Almost like playing a poker tournament. The strategy was to know where the next thermal was going to pop off, how much glide you have between you + the next thermal, where a decent LZ was if you had to land out. You watch leaves, trees, birds, other gliders and all kinds of other crap that floats to find out where the air was moving.

There is nothing in the world like floating around a few thousand feet off the ground. I miss it, but it was SUCH a huge time suck. You're committed for the entire day, and good days happen very infrequently in the east. It's also not a cheap sport. Once you have your equipment though, it will last you a long time if you take good care of it.

It's not as risky as most folks think... but there is risk involved (obviously). I decided if I wasn't going to have the time to fly consistently and stay in practice, I wasn't going to fly at all. So that's the way it remains today. At least I can relive the dream through videos like this....

I didn't know this guy (not sure if he was flying when I was), but he makes a pretty good film - though I did turn off the music... it looks like he has a mic now - I like hearing the wind, cars, kids.... the wings act as giant ears - you'd be amazed at what you can hear on the ground from 2000 feet up.

For anyone at all interested in a full flight, he does this one narrated from start to finish. Not sure why he's on a single surface glider (essentially a training/noob gilder) but he does pretty well with it given the conditions, and there a couple of spots where he's scratching close to the mountain that are entertaining.

whatever...

6 out of 5 hundred something in a $3 KO tonight.... really all I could think of was sleep. The entire tourney was pretty standard, got the fucked end of a cooler when my 2 pr went down to an 88 runner runner flush to the typical monkey that wins every hand he enters, no matter what cards. I was at his tables for a lot of the tournament and I don't remember 1 hand that he was ahead on. I win that one, I'm leader and probably take down the tourney (yeah, how many times have we all said THAT)

Anyway...still working like a mad man, so not so much time for poker, but when I do play I seem to do OK in the tourneys and sngs. Ring games are still a bitch, gotta work on that.

Road rage

I bike to and from work every day. It's only 5 miles (10 a day) but I love doing it. After 23 years, you get a sense of how people react on the road, and what idiotic things drivers, pedestrians and other bikers are capable of. I used to get aggressive, but quickly realized that defense keeps you alive. Taking my daughter to school every day on a trailer bike has made me even more cautious. I (mostly) follow traffic lights/signs (ok, this is NYC - if there is no oncoming traffic, you're gonna run the red on a bike, just as you'll jaywalk etc... I have no problem with that as long as the coast is VERY clear - it's the dumbfucks that don't pay attention that get hit), watch for turning cars, don't squeeze into impossible spots, don't go flying into traffic...

So yesterday I peddle up to a red light behind a minivan. As I was approaching, the first thing I always do is check for a turning signal. Nothing. My choices are 1. go around the left - stupid, since if the light turns when you get there - as it did in this case - the dude will just gun the car and send you into oncoming traffic...they will never let you pull ahead and over to the right - blind aggression takes over and it becomes some sort of stupid game to them.  2. Move to the right and let the car pass you to the left whenever he gets up to speed (never the option when there is a signal), or 3. stop behind him. I chose the right, as I had plenty of room and he was obviously going straight. The fucker decides to gun it and turn right (I'm positive he saw me, as I was in his right window and almost past him when he gunned it - remember the blind aggression I was talking about?), still no signal and now cutting me off and hitting me, and almost hitting 2 pedestrians crossing the street - they jumped back just in time). I put my hand out to push my bike to the right (making a pretty good slap sound on his window - more on this later...). He finally jacks the brakes. I had turned my bike with the car, so I was unharmed, but pretty fucking pissed. I yelled at him to use his blinkers, flipped him the finger (oops, mistake I think...)  and rode off. Shit like this happens all the time, dumb fucks have no idea what a turning signal is, feel like they own the road, will do anything to make sure they "win" like it's some kind of game... I learn to expect it... whatever... end of story right?

About halfway down the block I hear a car speeding up behind me, look around just in time to see this same stupid fuck chasing me down... he side swipes me again, and knocks me into some parked cars.... with a 2 ton minivan.... wtf? People go to jail for this shit, right? Not in fucking New York. The dude is screaming his ass off about how I almost broke his window (ummm, you mean the noise of you HITTING ME fucktard?)  and gets out of the car.... I've had enough of this shit, ride a little bit away and pull out my phone to call the cops... his ugly ass bitch wife opens her door without looking behind her AND DOORS ANOTHER BIKER TRYING TO PASS!!! Fucking classic. Psycho fuck sees me with the phone and runs over to me and stands a couple feet away threatening to kill me.... meanwhile a cop is standing across the street. Just standing there. With his fat fucking donut filled thumb in his fat fucking ass. Ignoring the whole scene. Dude has car parked in the middle of the street, still running, door open, screaming at me. Cop is uninterested. I yell for the cop to come over - psycho dude hurries back to his car. Cop takes his sweet fucking time crossing the street.

I need to mention, that throughout this whole episode, I am the epitome of calm. As of yet I was unharmed (both times I was hit I was able to move out of the way of serious damage) If the fuckhead had started throwing punches, I had a 10 pound bike lock I could brain his sorry ass with. I didn't want it to come to that, as I've seen waaaaay too many movies where someone tries to defend themselves, and they get thrown in the slammer instead. No idea if that shit's real, but no way I want to find out firsthand. I have a wife already, tyvm, don't need a new one named Bubba. Years of dealing with pressure situations teaches you to remain calm and use your head.

I calmly explain to the fucktard cop what was going on and got the expected answer. "Nothing I can do, I didn't see any of it happen." Fucking cops. Fucking lazy ass piece of shit obviously didn't want any paperwork. At that point I knew I was fucked, and if I press, the fucker will throw both of us in jail. It becomes a case of he said, she said.... and in my case, it would be 2 against one with the bitch wife in the car. I have NO DOUBT WHATSOEVER they would lie their way through everything and I'd end up being the one charged with some fucked up crime.

I'm well aware that there are many bicyclists that break every traffic law ever invented, and go out of their way to piss off motorists. Shit, half of them piss me the fuck off. By the same token there are many motorists that just shouldn't be behind the wheel. If a bike runs a red light and hits a pedestrian, ouch, that hurts but most likely everyone walks away. If a car runs a red or a stop sign and hits someone.... well, the driver can walk away.... not so much the pedestrian.

I would love to see this fucker go to jail. There is no room for that kind of behavior behind the wheel of a car. A car is NOT a toy, dear friends - respect everyone on the road - you're not the only ones allowed to use it. I can't make other bicyclists behave so it's up to the motorists to be on the lookout. You're bigger than them. They can't hurt you, but you sure as hell can hurt them.

Super-fun app

Sorry, another post not about poker.... (since I'm still not playing all that much)

I just downloaded Thumb Jam. I haven't had this much fun with a new program in ages. If you have any amount of musical skill at all (and probably even if you don't) this program will keep you entertained for hours. I haven't been able to do anything else all weekend.... If you have an Iphone, I highly recommend it... take a look at their demos on the media page to get an idea of what it does.

Just as a general note, it seems v4 of the iOS broke Thumb Jam a bit. The workaround for right now is OPEN the app with headphones (or if you're playing it through speakers, insert the speaker cable) inserted in the jack. After it's running you can remove the headphones if you want. It sometimes crashes on close as well, but while it's running it's been pretty solid. The developers know these problems and are working on it, but it's still pretty usable and fun.

LOST VEGAS

Hells yeah, I'll pimp pauly's shit! Out now on Lulu, I've ordered mine. Man up you bitches and order a copy!

Lost Vegas: The Redneck Riviera, Existentialist Conversations with Strippers, and the World Series of Poker... Las Vegas lures you to shed moral responsibility and piss away your money on indulgences like decadent food, entertainment, gambling, and sex. If you don't enjoy these pastimes, then what's the point of visiting the land of compromised values? Where else can you get a cheap steak, crash a Mexican wedding, get cold-decked in blackjack by a dealer named Dong, play video poker for thirteen straight hours, drink piña coladas out of a plastic coconut, bum a cigarette from an 85-year-old woman with an oxygen tank, speed away to the Spearmint Rhino in a free limo, get rubbed by a former Miss Teen USA, puke in the back of a cab driven by a retired Navy SEAL, snort cheap cocaine in the bathroom at O'Sheas, and then catch a lucky card on the river to crack pocket aces and win a poker tournament? Only in Las Vegas.

Checkin in

Not writing so much cuz, well.... not much going on. Still busy at work (yea), not playing much poker. When I do play, I've been pretty much breaking even to losing, still severely under EV for the month. I'm fairly certain I'm pushing too hard for 25NL, where folks would fold in higher limits, these monkeys call getting terrible odds and lucksack their 2 or 4 or 5 outers. Even so, I've had 0 tilt issues. I very calmly go to the next hand, play like nothing happened, and sometimes try to use my supposed tilt against folks that think I'm steaming. Much more enjoyable way to play, and my new laptop is thanking me for not beating the crap out of it.

Still swimming every other day, up to 70 - 80 lengths (72 is a mile). Feeling really good about my progress, trying to get to 160 lengths in the next few weeks, but not pushing it. Would hate to hurt my shoulder or some other stupid thing by going too far too fast. Been feeling great at work, very alert, so the exercise is definitely helping. Too tired to play poker at night though. Couldn't last through the McLovin, seriously doubt I could stay up for the Mook.

Some freaky thunderstorms starting right now... one grey cloud in the sky spitting out tons of lightning. Pretty cool (unless I get hit!)

That's all for now.... don't forget to read Pauly for wsop updates, and congrats to CK!

Father's Day in NYC

Slept in till 11, while my wife + daughter waited patiently for me to wake up (I had worked late on saturday so I'd be sure to have Sunday free). They gave me some flowers (which I could barely see with my bleary just waking up eyes) and sang a silly song (a tradition at any blaargh event!) then made me coffee and yogurt and berries (yum!).

I fixed up my wife's bike, hooked up the trailer bike to drag my daughter along, and we made our way across the williamsburg bridge, down lower manhattan and over to Battery park to find the labyrinth. It's a pretty secret spot right in the middle of thousands of tourists, it's unmarked and the gate looks like you shouldn't be in there. We passed it on the first try, but I knew the air races were going on, so we found a park by the water and watched the maniacs pull huge G's 30 ft off the water. It was ridiculous and amazing.

We then rode back to the Governor's island ferry to go play artist mini golf (a bunch of artists designed the golf holes, been a trend since the 80's). Luckily we got there fairly late in the day, and only caught the tail end of this. Nothing like expecting a quiet day riding around a park and instead getting accosted by 14 year old pseudo punks. For the record, I have nothing against punks, I just hate the wannabe's... which at this stage in the game is pretty much everyone.... And when you get 50 punk bands together, chances are 49 of em will suck balls. And from what I heard that pretty much holds true.

After bashing golf balls around the ramshackle course, we made our way to the Brooklyn ferry, then rode up Bedford and back home. I still had energy, but my wife was pretty beat (she hasn't been on a bike in a year, and 20 miles in 90 deg heat is pushin it a bit).

Played a bit of 50NL, played pretty well, but running horribly under EV (-5BI under) and only ended -1/2 BI down for the night. Someday I'll have a hand hold up... someday....

All in all a great fathers day. Wish everyday could be like this.

Well... mostly made it to the McLovin!

So.... went out for a great mexican meal in Redhook with the wife + daughter (Alma, for you NYC folks), relaxed atmosphere, rooftop view of the city (and shipping containers, it IS redhook for cristsakes). Nice evening all around. After some anniversary festivities, my wife fell asleep on my arm. Well, I did the only thing a caring husband could do in that situation, I fired up the McLovin!

I didn't have my glasses on, and the laptop was too far away to see the chat clearly, not to mention I was one handed, so if anyone tried to chat me I wasn't being rude, just incapable.

Started out a bit low in chips after getting blinded out for 40 mins, but not too bad. Got back to 3k fairly quickly, then got wonka to donate half of his stack with AA > AJo on an Ad Xd Xd board. Stayed pretty much in the top 10 for the rest of the game, can't really remember any other hands, just played TAG, position, situation.

Going towards the FT, I was getting SUPER tired (started swimming again). That kind of tired you get when you're physically spent and there is nothing that will keep you awake. I had decent chips (I think 2nd or so) so I planned on making the cash, then pretty much jamming away my stack to whoever wanted it most. I knocked out totenkopft (url?) for the bubble with a race 44 > KQ? or AQ? I think? then pretty quickly gave OhCaptain a double with KQ< AA. I actually thought about folding AQ, it's really tough to shove off your chips when every bone in your body says you're behind even when you're trying to get rid of them. It's kind of like bungee jumping, you need to take that first step into the abyss... I gave 2BA the rest of my chips (there was absolutely no question I was behind on that one, I'm glad I didn't suck out on him again) typed a quick gg, transferred my mincash to Captain, and über-crashed.

Thanks again Cap, glad you put this on - hope you do it again!

*******

So... swimming. The last couple years have been pretty tough for me. My dad died from pancreatic cancer, and the whole ordeal really depressed me. I gained weight, drank a bit too much, was generally grouchy (for me, that is... which means I was only joking around 95% of the time instead of 100%). I pretty much stopped surfing, swimming or any other exercise. I finally looked in the mirror a couple weeks ago and decided I've had enough of that shit. Joined the Y down the street from my office and I've been swimming every other day for about 2 weeks now. The first couple times were brutal, but I'm starting to get back into the swing of it. I'm keeping it small for the moment at 5 200's (40 lengths) and adding a few every week until I can do a full workout again. In that time I've lost 10 lbs, and only need about 5 - 10 more to be back on an ideal weight. The weight didn't matter to me as much as the muscle mass. I've always been pretty thin, I still wear the same size I did in high school, but I've never had a tire flab like I do now. I feel a lot better, more alert, I sleep better... all the crap you don't realize you're missing without exercise.

*******

Poker... I've been quietly sneaking in a few sessions here and there, and generally enjoying poker again. I tilted off a huge portion of my BR over the last few months, and pretty much regret it. Nothing I can do about it now but rebuild. I started off with a couple sessions of 10NL to get my feet wet again (around 95bb/100 over 1k hands - lol) and have now moved myself up to 25NL. I'm going to stick with 25 and 50NL for a while until I'm comfortable enough to move to 100 again. I'm excluding myself completely from rush, I seem to tilt-monkey there way too much. Also been playing a few steps tourneys. Getting cold decked in the super turbos, so I switched to the step 1 18 mans. Won pretty much every one I've played recently. The fields at that level are generally pretty soft. Don't know if I'm going to go past the $26 ticket, as there's nothing much I want to play over that limit. I'm just doing this to have a little fun, no real direction in mind, so we'll see what happens...

Lost Explained...

...by one of the writers. Even from writer to writer to producer to director you will get slightly different answers, which is the beauty of this show. It answers enough of the important questions to give you closure, but keeps enough mysteries to keep you thinking about it. If you've seen the TED talk by JJ Abrams, you'd know from the beginning that he wasn't going to answer everything. He has his mystery box and he's going to keep it closed forever. I had meant to post the TED link a long time ago but never got around to it. I think it gave a very good insight into how Lost would (and did) end up. Maybe if Hoy had seen it, he could have stopped watching Lost a long time ago knowing full well he would leave unsatisfied. There are folks that like superrealism , and folks that like abstraction , and many in between. There are folks that don't like art at all. Room in the world for everyone. It's an amazing feat to pull off a show that could keep so many people entertained for so long. Definitely there were wrong turns, loose ends etc... this thing was something like 120 hours of TV.. absolutely there will be mistakes. It's hard enough to keep a 2 hour movie under control, 120 hours is a nightmare. But taken as a body of work this thing ended up a masterpiece. Enough from me, I'm no writer, take it (or not) from someone who is:

Lost Explained

I'm looking forward to Goat's interpretation as well. Just because you intend that blob of paint to be a squirrel, doesn't mean everyone who looks at it will see a squirrel...

ffffffffffffuuuuuuuuucccccccccccccccccckkkkkkkkkkkkk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

that's how i fuuuuuuuuuucccccccccckkkkkkkkkkiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnngggggggg feel right now. Went from 2nd place to last in the mook with AK sooooooted vs TT, then shoved the last of my chips with KQ into AK. This was after hanging on through the worst 2 hours of card dead imaginable with only 2k in chips, building it up to a nice stack, then I brain fart. FUCK. I managed to do the exact same in the Dookie into LJ a little while later (while still severely tilting), but razz doesn't count. Whoever wins the Dook is a devil fucker. fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck. I had a chance to get there.

***edit - to add a little more slightly sane info... I could have easily gotten away from the AK hand on the flop. There was no possible way I had anything other than 6 outs there, and 100% he had TT or JJ the way he played it. I KNEW this and *called* his shove like the complete monkey I am. It wasn't even a tough lay down... I flopped nothing, he shoves for most of my chips, bink - in the muck, next hand please! I'm still super pissed at myself for that... if I laid down, I'd still be in the top % and been able to make a decent run. I had been playing super controlled the entire time, then I brain lock and make a stupid move like that.

Having said all that.... thanks again Al for putting this on and good luck to those in the TOC!

Who thought this sign was a good idea?

I went to the Metropolitan Opera to see a ballet performance last night. I'm standing in the lobby and bust out laughing. My wife gives me "that look", sees the sign and she cracks up (did I mention I have the greatest wife in the universe?) WTF were these guys thinking when they made this?

... And yeah, I'm at one of the most beautiful places on the planet watching an amazing performance, and all I can take a snapshot of is this sign. You can dress him up...

For Doc

I had forgotten about this job (I won't get into it... lets just say job from hell and leave it at that), but I had to recreate a couple of ferraris and a porsche. I might finish the animation for my reel if I have time this summer, if I do I'll post it for ya... tricked out Diem-Turner Ferrari from the U.S. Express (Cannonball run to the uninitiated....)

Congrats on the new purchase btw :) I know I'm a bit behind in my blog reading... very busy lately.

Coincidence?

I'm working today (sunday) and in between things (I have a lot of rendering time) I pick a random netflix download move. Felon looks mildly interesting...(it was actually pretty good - Val Kilmer has come a long way and I'm starting to respect him as an actor... I'm sure he's been waiting his whole life to hear that, but anyway...) I start watching and there's Michael Dawson from Lost as the head prison guard. He was actually much better in this than he ever was in Lost...

Start another render a while later, throw on a Korean movie called Shiri and what the fuck... there's Sun.

I guess I should be watching the Lost finale right now as I'm sure I'm fucking up my Darhma, but as I'm nowhere near a TV, I'll have to wait until it's on Hulu or just download it later this week, but what a weird coincidence to see 2 losties in 2 completely disparate movies in the same night as the end of it all.... or is it?

BBT #5 - PTR 5/3/10

At work until 2:30 last night, no time for the PTR. Which is too bad, I wanted to use up my step 3 ticket :) Didn't even have time to listen to BDR as I had to get comps out and needed to focus. Congrats to OssssSUuuuuuu.

FISH FISH FISH FISH FISH

JFKLDS;AJ JRG;FD JSDK JG KLFDS;GJKL;GDFKS;LJ;KLDJKL!!!!!!

Drinking and playing again. You'd think I'd of learnt by now. My obvious hatred of money knows no bounds. Work like a motherfucker all week, have a couple beers, jump onto full tilt tired as hell, blow 500 bucks, rinse, wash, repeat. I looked at my hand histories today. I wish I could play against a fish like me every session, I'd be rich.

Happy birthday, me.

That is all.

BBT #4 - THE BUDDYMOOK 4/28/10

Could barely keep my eyes open for this one... and I just found out I'm getting more last minute work in, so will be busy for a couple more weeks... gotta pay those bills!

2 hands in I wake up with KK in the SB. I managed to weak bet my way into all of CK's chips when she shoved TP on the river. I chipped up a bit more, made it past the break then managed to lose a bunch of chips with AK soooooted twice  - I know on the first hand I was the aggressor and was called by TT - don't remember the second hand. Rather than playing a good tight game like I should have, I shoved my remaining chips into I can't remember who or what cards a little while later for 50th place. I wasn't tilted, just too tired to go on. But the second I did it, I felt like crap... that "why the fuck did I just do that" feeling. Oh well. Play better on the next one.

Waffles. Hard core über donkasaurus. And a very funny man. Don't let him know I said that though. That is all.

BBT #3 - PTR 4/26/10

Played pretty ok tonight - no decisions I'm embarrassed about. Still pretty wrapped up in work, so very tired, actually woke up from a quick nap to reg this time :) Had to play pretty tight for the 2nd half of the game, went completely card dead for about 45 hands. Anything that looked remotely playable was shoved on, so I just stayed tight, stole where I could and maintained. Ended up shoving 44 over Troublecat's co raise, he thought for a while (I had been squeaky tight to this point) and finally called with 99, and that was the end for me - out in 12/75. Would have been nice to make the FT, but I can't complain, I at least hit the $$. Looking forward to the MookieDank, though Wednesday is a big deadline day for me... only 10 more days...

BBT #2 - MOOKIE 4/21/10

Heart wasn't in this one... very tired, but entered anyway. Threw an "awfukkit" 77 3bet shove into a flop rr on a low board and 99 held about 1/2hr into it. I pretty much knew I was toast on the rr, and there was absolutely no reason to get so feisty this early, I guess I just wanted out. I'm probably going to be playing like crap until I get done with my latest job, so the first half of the BBT will look a lot like these first 2 posts, but I'll keep plugging away anyway. I have enough tokens for the PTR from ftp points, and enough to carry my mookie entries from winning a satellite, so I'm pretty much on a freeroll on this thing. And if anyone from my table reads this - sorry for the non-chat... I was just too tired to deal.

BBT #1 - PTR 4/20/10

Got home with plenty of time to make the tourney. Sent my daughter to brush her teeth at 9:00, lie down on the couch, and within 30 seconds fast asleep. Woke up at 10:30, too late to join PTR. Not a very good start to BBT5.

I have to guess I'm pretty much dead money in most of these tourneys, since I've not been playing MTT's and instead concentrating on cash. (and, oh yeah, I'm pathetic at poker to begin with, let's not forget about that).

See you at the Mookie (if I can stay awake long enough to register, that is....)

FTP Update

Lots going on today - I don't think I've ever posted this much... but...

FUCKING RUSH TOURNAMENTS. Oh crap...

They've also changed Tokens to Tickets... I guess they're implementing the "steps" system ala Stars.

From the 2+2 thread:

A. Rush Poker Tournamentshttp://www.fulltiltpoker.com/rush-tournaments

It's Rush Poker applied to tournaments! Mostly the same as Rush ring games, with a few concessions to tournament play. The main changes:

  • Instead of just tracking number of hands since paying the big blind, the small blind is also tracked.
  • The actual amount of time since you last posted a blind matters nearly as much as how many hands you've gone since posting. This is to discourage stalling (there is no hand-for-hand, so we've made stalling detrimental/harder in other ways), however it's not so bad that you're unduly punished just for being very active in hands.
  • When the tournament gets down to under 30 players, the tables start getting shorter (down to 4 handed tables when 10 players are left in a 9 handed tournament). This keeps the "rush" of Rush poker going.
  • The tournament reverts to a normal tournament for the final table. This is also the only time you can observe a RushTournament.

As many guessed, all three "TBA" FTOPS events are Rush Tournaments. We have a Turbo, a PLO Knockout, and a big Rebuy. More details can be found on the FTOPS schedule and they will appear in the game shortly.

B. Tournament Ticketshttp://www.fulltiltpoker.com/tournament-tickets

We've completely revamped the old "token" system and created a Tournament Ticket system. If you had an old $26 or $75 token, it's been converted to a $26 or $75 tournament ticket. You can check your tournament ticket balance in the Cashier (where the tokens used to be).

This change allows a number of things. The most immediately visible include buying tournament tickets in the FTP Store, Iron Man Store, and FTP Academy store. Various freerolls (such as the weekly $1K Freeroll and the WSOP "Race to the Main Event" Freerolls) will award tickets.

Also enabled by Tournament Tickets...

C. Steps Tournamentshttp://www.fulltiltpoker.com/steps-tournaments

Found under Sit & Go->Steps, start with $3.30 and work your way through 7 steps to get your WSOP Main Event package. Eventually there will be other Step 7 tournament with different end prizes.

We've incorporated the old $26 and $75 token system into the new step system (as Steps 3 and 4), and all Step tickets from Step 3 on can be used in any tournament matching that buyin ($26, $75, $216, $640, and $2100), so there are lots of "exit points" to be had if the final Step doesn't interest you.

There are many different flavors of each Step (including regular, turbo, super turbo, 4-man HU, 6-max, 18-man, 36-man double shootouts, and a few daily MTTs) so everyone should be able to find a Step that suits them.

D. Super Turbo SNG Changes: We've "standardized" the Super Turbo SNG offerings. Instead of the slightly weird and limited buyin levels, we're now spreading Super Turbo SNGs at every "normal" SNG level from $1 to $1,000. In addition, we've modified the Heads-Up Super Turbo structure. Instead of 3 minute levels starting at 15/30 they're now 2 minute levels starting at 10/20, and instead of 300 starting chips they now have 500. Structures for 6/8/9 handed Super Turbos are unchanged.

Joe Cada doc in the works

Saw this on Joxum's blog.

Guess the filmmakers got stupidly lucky on this one... it looks like they started filming before the gang went to Vegas and just happened to be filming the eventual winner. I'm not positive about that though - they might have just grabbed him after he hit the final table... the more I think about it, the more likely that scenario is. The content looks pretty good, though the production looks a bit shoddy (hey guys, need some excellent motion graphics? Give me a yell!)

I like this one better than the EP02 Busto to Robusto with good2cu that just came out. The filmmakers only get a few days to shoot, and though I think they could have made a great story out of his life, they just didn't capture what they needed in time. I also don't identify with him on any level whatsoever, so it's a tough sell to begin with. Worth checking out though.

BBT5!

Damn, that snuck up pretty quick! Thanks to Al for putting this together again... I have to say I was kind of bummed when he told us BBT4 was the last one. I had a lot of fun playing last year. Came close a couple times to snagging a TOC seat, but couldn't pull it off. I guess I have 12 tries to get it right this time! Can't wait for Goat's predictions.

Better...

3 more buyins up tonight. I'm back up for the month, but still 3 buyins down from my spazz out. No idea WTF I was doing yesterday. I just didn't believe anyone had what they said they had. Believe 'em now, that's for sure...

Gonna go chill out for a bit. Not sure of I'll play tomorrow. Historically, Friday nights are hellabad for me, though saturday and sunday are cash cows.

*edit - I'm now up 6 buyins... Pretty much where I left off before the catastrophy.

Don't let this fool you. I'm still the fishiest fish on the dish.

I managed to cbet $12 instead of $1.20 on an A high flop and got shoved on. Fucking missclickaments.

Testing

Nothing interesting to say... Just testing the BlogPress app.

Probably won't get me to update any more, but worth a try.

If you don't know who the fish at the table is...

... just look for my gills.

I have become the king of tilt-spewtm. I had a couple hours to kill while waiting for some work to come in yesterday, so of course I make a beeline for the 50NL rush tables. I immediately blow through 2 buyins running KK into AA and AA into a rivered flush, aipf. No problem, coolers happen.... I then go on to drop 7 more buyins in what can only be described as super mega monkey tiltm. I can't tell you how many times I hit the "Aw fuckit" button. My play was utterly, despicably, horribad... maybe worse. I have no idea what came over me, but I just couldn't stop myself.

I got home too late to join the Josie/Mookie festivities again, but felt like I had to get back on the damn horse. I made about 3 buyins back, putting me at about even for the month. Funny how that seems like a success.

I really shouldn't be playing at all while I have so much work to do. But I probably will. So if anyone needs extra cash, just look for me at the tables. I'll be the one with the big sign over my head that says "Fresh Fish".

Still working my ass off...

Thought work would slow down, but I keep getting rush jobs in. Not complaining, but no sleep is starting to wear me down. Not as young as I used to be...

Recently sneaking in a game or 2 here and there, tried to join the festival last night, but got home too late (I had been at work for about 40 hours at that point). Between Mookie, Josie, and the turbo, seemed like I missed a pretty good night. I ended up listening to BDR and playing a couple 50NL tables before I crashed. Running much better, I think the time off helped, and I'm giving the tables my full attention.

That's all for now.

Home game win

My stupidly insane work schedule isn't over yet. I have 2 more days before my final delivery of my final job. My friends on my floor wanted to get together for a bigger than usual home game, but I declined all week, since I'm under a lot of pressure to get this crap out the door. As it turns out, the game was right next door, and I couldn't help myself....

The whole floor is broken up into small pockets of design, web and motion graphics (yeah!) companies, and we're all good friends. Normally we only get about 6 or 7 people playing, we set the blind limits way too short, and it becomes a donkfest in a matter of minutes. I'm ok with this, as it gives the folks that don't know how to play a pretty good chance to take one down, or at least cash every once in a while. Yesterday 2 of the guys had their families with them (who all love playing poker), so we had a 10 person game. I set the blind levels to 15 mins (trust me, that's an eternity for these games) and flattened out the blinds so there were no big jumps until 500-1000 to 1000-2000, starting at 5-10 with 2k chips. I knew this would take around 3-4 hours to complete, but I wanted everyone to feel like they had some play time and get their moneys worth, and I wanted the folks that did know how to play to have a chance to actually play some poker.

I should play more during the day. I was awake, aware and playing well throughout. I quickly pinpointed each players style, and used the right moves against each, including folding to donk min bets from certain people, or re-raising the same from others. I successfully bluffed a good player that was playing too tight a few times, and when he couldn't take it anymore I held the nuts. My hands held when they needed to, and when they didn't I had the chips to withstand it.

Heads up lasted 1 hand. I had a 2-1 chiplead when my 77 aipf was in trouble vs KQ with a flopped Q. The turn of course was a 7. For once, luck goes my way. Had I not resucked, we would have been even in chips, and though I feel I have a slight edge, it would have been a pretty close hu match had it gone on.

Good to take one of these down, as the last few games I've been savagely brutalized by the new guy sucking out with all kinds of Kx and Qx hands. (I'm on to him - took him out early this time!)

It's now sunday afternoon, I overslept today from exhaustion from all the late nights I've been pulling, yet I'm still procrastinating by writing here instead of getting through my shotlist. Guess I better get to it!

Quick update

A bit of a life and challenge update on SBC here.

I agree with HOP. When I saw the "5 post tax", I was a bit put off. PS is definitely getting the better deal in that arrangement and I don't think its right. I put this in the same category as large corporations holding "contests" for art, logo and design work. They give away a paltry sum, get 4000 design options, and keep the rights to the work.

Not that PS cares (or anyone even reads this blog - lol), but I think I'll skip this one as well. I don't mind posting one link, but come on, 5? That's pretty lame....

WBCOOP Event 6

210/1939 (153 paid)
Deep run, but sat at crazy table the whole time. Both SB and BB were shovers, even at 15/30 blinds. Awesome. Couldn't bring myself to call off with ATo or Q9o, so I just had to wait it out. JJ held, AA held, dude with 30k chips (to my 6k) got moved to my right and shoved (and got there) about a billion times. Again, I had to carefully pick my spots while receiving nothing for cards. Finally shoved in MP with AQ, got called by KK, had a ton of outs but didn't get there, gg.

This was the only one of these I could make, I wish PS had varied the start times during the week. Don't know if I'll make tomorrows grand finale, but I'll try.

Was great chatting with Crash and Joxum over his blog chat thingie (check it out, it's free, and a great way to live blog)

The Jason Ho Trainwreck

I haven't looked up the 2+2 threads on this yet, but I started reading the Stox thread yesterday before this page of damning evidence was posted. Yesterday I had been thinking the entire thread was ridiculous, now my jaw is on the floor. I watched a few of his videos a while ago, and after a while couldn't stand his voice. They consisted of 50 minutes of rambling/mumbling and about 2 minutes of "content" that didn't seem all that informative. Not what I was looking for in terms of training.

I always wonder how people can get in this deep... now I know. Can't wait to see the movie. Hmmm... maybe a blaargh version is in the offing...

I can't be the only one that wants to see this...

Someone punched me in the nose...

Cut the side/tip of my finger off with an xacto knife, bled all over the place, wrapped it up with paper towel, still bled, made a rubber band tourniquet, still bled, sent a friend around the corner for some bandages, started feeling a bit lightheaded, wake up and the EMTs are there, the girls down the hall called 911 when they found me with my legs hanging out of the hallway bathroom. When the EMTs asked what was wrong, I held up my finger and said "I got a boo boo". The EMTs didn't laugh. Went to the ER later and bled all over the triage nurse. She sent me to a doc and I bled all over her. She packed it full of cellulose and wrapped it up and I didn't pass out again. I think I was sent to Super Weenie General. The guy next to me was in because a cat scratched his ankle.

I have ruined yet another date with my wife. My daughter was at a sleepover and my wife was on her way to meet me at the movie theater to see Avatar when I did this. I'm cursed.

The best part? I had printed out Small Stakes Holdem and was cutting a cover for it. My wife loved that.
