LOST VEGAS

Hells yeah, I'll pimp pauly's shit! Out now on Lulu, I've ordered mine. Man up you bitches and order a copy!

Lost Vegas: The Redneck Riviera, Existentialist Conversations with Strippers, and the World Series of Poker... Las Vegas lures you to shed moral responsibility and piss away your money on indulgences like decadent food, entertainment, gambling, and sex. If you don't enjoy these pastimes, then what's the point of visiting the land of compromised values? Where else can you get a cheap steak, crash a Mexican wedding, get cold-decked in blackjack by a dealer named Dong, play video poker for thirteen straight hours, drink piña coladas out of a plastic coconut, bum a cigarette from an 85-year-old woman with an oxygen tank, speed away to the Spearmint Rhino in a free limo, get rubbed by a former Miss Teen USA, puke in the back of a cab driven by a retired Navy SEAL, snort cheap cocaine in the bathroom at O'Sheas, and then catch a lucky card on the river to crack pocket aces and win a poker tournament? Only in Las Vegas.

Checkin in

Not writing so much cuz, well.... not much going on. Still busy at work (yea), not playing much poker. When I do play, I've been pretty much breaking even to losing, still severely under EV for the month. I'm fairly certain I'm pushing too hard for 25NL, where folks would fold in higher limits, these monkeys call getting terrible odds and lucksack their 2 or 4 or 5 outers. Even so, I've had 0 tilt issues. I very calmly go to the next hand, play like nothing happened, and sometimes try to use my supposed tilt against folks that think I'm steaming. Much more enjoyable way to play, and my new laptop is thanking me for not beating the crap out of it.

Still swimming every other day, up to 70 - 80 lengths (72 is a mile). Feeling really good about my progress, trying to get to 160 lengths in the next few weeks, but not pushing it. Would hate to hurt my shoulder or some other stupid thing by going too far too fast. Been feeling great at work, very alert, so the exercise is definitely helping. Too tired to play poker at night though. Couldn't last through the McLovin, seriously doubt I could stay up for the Mook.

Some freaky thunderstorms starting right now... one grey cloud in the sky spitting out tons of lightning. Pretty cool (unless I get hit!)

That's all for now.... don't forget to read Pauly for wsop updates, and congrats to CK!

Father's Day in NYC

Slept in till 11, while my wife + daughter waited patiently for me to wake up (I had worked late on saturday so I'd be sure to have Sunday free). They gave me some flowers (which I could barely see with my bleary just waking up eyes) and sang a silly song (a tradition at any blaargh event!) then made me coffee and yogurt and berries (yum!).

I fixed up my wife's bike, hooked up the trailer bike to drag my daughter along, and we made our way across the williamsburg bridge, down lower manhattan and over to Battery park to find the labyrinth. It's a pretty secret spot right in the middle of thousands of tourists, it's unmarked and the gate looks like you shouldn't be in there. We passed it on the first try, but I knew the air races were going on, so we found a park by the water and watched the maniacs pull huge G's 30 ft off the water. It was ridiculous and amazing.

We then rode back to the Governor's island ferry to go play artist mini golf (a bunch of artists designed the golf holes, been a trend since the 80's). Luckily we got there fairly late in the day, and only caught the tail end of this. Nothing like expecting a quiet day riding around a park and instead getting accosted by 14 year old pseudo punks. For the record, I have nothing against punks, I just hate the wannabe's... which at this stage in the game is pretty much everyone.... And when you get 50 punk bands together, chances are 49 of em will suck balls. And from what I heard that pretty much holds true.

After bashing golf balls around the ramshackle course, we made our way to the Brooklyn ferry, then rode up Bedford and back home. I still had energy, but my wife was pretty beat (she hasn't been on a bike in a year, and 20 miles in 90 deg heat is pushin it a bit).

Played a bit of 50NL, played pretty well, but running horribly under EV (-5BI under) and only ended -1/2 BI down for the night. Someday I'll have a hand hold up... someday....

All in all a great fathers day. Wish everyday could be like this.

Well... mostly made it to the McLovin!

So.... went out for a great mexican meal in Redhook with the wife + daughter (Alma, for you NYC folks), relaxed atmosphere, rooftop view of the city (and shipping containers, it IS redhook for cristsakes). Nice evening all around. After some anniversary festivities, my wife fell asleep on my arm. Well, I did the only thing a caring husband could do in that situation, I fired up the McLovin!

I didn't have my glasses on, and the laptop was too far away to see the chat clearly, not to mention I was one handed, so if anyone tried to chat me I wasn't being rude, just incapable.

Started out a bit low in chips after getting blinded out for 40 mins, but not too bad. Got back to 3k fairly quickly, then got wonka to donate half of his stack with AA > AJo on an Ad Xd Xd board. Stayed pretty much in the top 10 for the rest of the game, can't really remember any other hands, just played TAG, position, situation.

Going towards the FT, I was getting SUPER tired (started swimming again). That kind of tired you get when you're physically spent and there is nothing that will keep you awake. I had decent chips (I think 2nd or so) so I planned on making the cash, then pretty much jamming away my stack to whoever wanted it most. I knocked out totenkopft (url?) for the bubble with a race 44 > KQ? or AQ? I think? then pretty quickly gave OhCaptain a double with KQ< AA. I actually thought about folding AQ, it's really tough to shove off your chips when every bone in your body says you're behind even when you're trying to get rid of them. It's kind of like bungee jumping, you need to take that first step into the abyss... I gave 2BA the rest of my chips (there was absolutely no question I was behind on that one, I'm glad I didn't suck out on him again) typed a quick gg, transferred my mincash to Captain, and über-crashed.

Thanks again Cap, glad you put this on - hope you do it again!

So... swimming. The last couple years have been pretty tough for me. My dad died from pancreatic cancer, and the whole ordeal really depressed me. I gained weight, drank a bit too much, was generally grouchy (for me, that is... which means I was only joking around 95% of the time instead of 100%). I pretty much stopped surfing, swimming or any other exercise. I finally looked in the mirror a couple weeks ago and decided I've had enough of that shit. Joined the Y down the street from my office and I've been swimming every other day for about 2 weeks now. The first couple times were brutal, but I'm starting to get back into the swing of it. I'm keeping it small for the moment at 5 200's (40 lengths) and adding a few every week until I can do a full workout again. In that time I've lost 10 lbs, and only need about 5 - 10 more to be back on an ideal weight. The weight didn't matter to me as much as the muscle mass. I've always been pretty thin, I still wear the same size I did in high school, but I've never had a tire flab like I do now. I feel a lot better, more alert, I sleep better... all the crap you don't realize you're missing without exercise.

Poker... I've been quietly sneaking in a few sessions here and there, and generally enjoying poker again. I tilted off a huge portion of my BR over the last few months, and pretty much regret it. Nothing I can do about it now but rebuild. I started off with a couple sessions of 10NL to get my feet wet again (around 95bb/100 over 1k hands - lol) and have now moved myself up to 25NL. I'm going to stick with 25 and 50NL for a while until I'm comfortable enough to move to 100 again. I'm excluding myself completely from rush, I seem to tilt-monkey there way too much. Also been playing a few steps tourneys. Getting cold decked in the super turbos, so I switched to the step 1 18 mans. Won pretty much every one I've played recently. The fields at that level are generally pretty soft. Don't know if I'm going to go past the $26 ticket, as there's nothing much I want to play over that limit. I'm just doing this to have a little fun, no real direction in mind, so we'll see what happens...
